(Dr.) Gail Mackiernan 30.11.2008 "You should print multiple copies of these posters and also the report pages and send to the major cruise ship companies operating in southern waters. For example, we had dozens of petrels and some shearwaters come abords the M/S Statendam whilst cruising from New Zealand north last March -- we had alerted the ship's deck crew about the problem and most of the birds were released unharmed, including over 30 Gould's Petrels. These ships, which keep deck lights on all night, can attract many birds. We cruised one night through major habitat for Beck's Petrels and the whole ship was alerted (with photos, article in ship's newsletter etc.) but fortunately none came aboard. (Although I *would* have liked to have seen one in the hand...the biologist speaking here.) I have also had a lot of birsd come aborad on oceanographic cruises when on station at night with ligts ablaze -- so major reserach institutions (e.g. Scripps, Wood Hole, etc.) should also be included." Nicolas Selosse 30.11.2008 "Excellent initiative ! I will take some posters onboard of the Polarstern during the Antarctic expedition (5 Dec 08 - 5 Jan 09) and will give a short informative lecture about this subject to the participing scientists and crew members. Regards, Nicolas Selosse, Belgium" (regarding Seabirds Landing On Ships)

Deirdre 2007 "The only word to describe Lex’s pictures is Wow!. I have copies of some of his photos of Christy Moore and Declan Sinnott and the quality and detail are superb, but more than that, they truly capture the atmosphere of a live performance. They are magic. Pure magic."
