About this website
November 2003 the LEXsample website went online. Initially its goal was to present an online portfolio, easily accessible by all.
But gradually I started to also offer more background information about the photographs; the LEXsample & Antarctica special, containing book reviews, photo tips and traveller's information, is another example worth mentioning here.
My aim is to update this website once a month. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I fail. The page News will always give you
the last additions. If you wish to receive an email when this website has been updated, then simply subscribe to the (free) LEXsample newsletter.
How is LEXsample being created?
Updating the LEXsample website is a manual process. I am mainly using:
- DerekWare HTML Author, a simple html-editor. This is a 'freeware' program which is in essence a sort of Notepad,
but it's good enough for what I want. Its creator, Derek Smith, has discontinued his software product. The old version can still be downloaded from his website.
- Handleiding HTML, a very clear and well-structured Dutch website created by Hans de Jong. He has described everything I need to understand html codes, and to produce them.
Have the photographs been edited?
The photographs I am showing are the original digital files the way I saved them. While transferring photographs from the camera to the PC, I often correct the exposure a little bit.
No further modifications are made to the photographs I am showing on my website, although I reduce their size and add the LEXsample logo (to prevent the photographs are being used without permission).
All photographs are shown the way they were taken: in original format, so no zooming-in nor cropping. The only exception are the photographs that have a piece missing from the upper left corner. These pictures were cropped to ensure the subject can still be appreciated on-screen, for example the small storm petrel on the photograph on the right.
