Helgoland: Common and Grey Seals (June 2007)

A young Common Seal (Phoca vitulina).

Resting on a rock in the morning sun.

On the beaches of the islet Düne seals are resting all day long, occasionally going to sea for a swim.

A moulting common seal.

Tracks of seals who have moved along with the waterline.

The common seals are curious and constantly keep an eye on you.

The Grey Seal (Halichoerus grypus) is commonly seen on Helgoland too. The grey seal is much larger than the common seal and has a real snout.
