Albatross articles two dutch magazines
Published at almost the same moment, two magazines have published the contribution I made: an article about albatrosses accompanied with my own photographs. The first magazine is called Leven and is send to all members of the Dutch Vegetarian Society. The second, Het Vogeljaar is published by the Dutch Ornithological Union. Althought the theme of the two articles is the same, they were written independently from each other. Anyone interested in my special promotion Albatross on canvas can read on from the links below:

Hooverphonic - Melkweg, Amsterdam, 27 November 2007
Wednesday 27 November the Belgium band Hooverphonic performed in the Melkweg venue in Amsterdam to present their latest (seventh) album to the dutch audience The President Of The LSD Golf Club. The public responded very enthusiasticly, and so the band returned twice for an encore, playing their hit Mad About You amongt other songs. The opening act was The Go Find, who called themselves 'Hooverphonic's soundcheckers' but they proved to be more than just that. Their latest masterpiece is called Stars On The Wall. Check here for my photographs of Hooverphonic (15) and The Go Find (8). |

The public were not the only ones to be surprised, Nynke herself was overwhelmed when she was presented with a golden record for her first CD 'Sielesâlt' which has sold more than 35,000 copies. Not a bad result at all for a CD sung in Frisian language! DVD and CD can be ordered online via Nynke's website, www.nynkelaverman.nl. |

Searching the internet, the New Zealand artist Shelley Cruickshank came across my photograph used on the website of BirdLife International. BirdLife is using my photographs for the albatross campaign. Shelley sent me this picture of the work in progress. The background is nearly finished, it is inspired on Mount Maunganui in the early morning hours. She uses acrylic paint used as watercolour, on 300gm cotton paper. Ramses Shaffy with Alderliefste :: Open air concert at the Vondelpark, 12 August 2007
Alderliefste, a band that mainly plays French evergreens, is also the trio that has translated the famous Dutch song 'Laat Me' by Ramses Shaffy, into French (under the title 'Vivre'). The old master himself was present this afternoon at the Amsterdam Vondelpark to sing a couple of songs by himself. And he was in a good mood. He would probably sell out the big halls in Amsterdam should he organise a show once more... Fifteen new photographs of this concert are now online. |
Storks in the Amsterdam Vondelpark (II)
Today I have added fifteen new photographs of the Vondelpark storks taken over the last couple of days. One of the three young birds fledges on August 2nd, but remains on the nest with the other two where they practice their flying excercises. |

Bright Eyes - live at Melkweg, 11 juli 2007
Bright Eyes is the band of singer Conor Oberst (27, Nebraska) who played at the Amsterdam Melkweg venue with quite a big band. Just two days ago, their new single ‘Hot Knives’/'If The Brakeman Turns My Way’ had been released, and the songs of tonight's gig were mainly from their latest album Cassadaga.
The support act was a pleasant solo performance by Jaymay from New York (photographs of her further down this page). I had the impression that the audience appreciated her songs too.
There's 15 new photographs for you to enjoy this time. Storks in the Amsterdam Vondelpark - updated

Storks in the Amsterdam Vondelpark
Since last May a pair of storks (Ciconia ciconia) has chosen the Amsterdam Vondelpark as the location to build their nest. Last year their attempt failed when they tried to nest near a tennis court. This year near the rose garden they seem to be more successfull with four young chicks recorded. However, over the last days when I was present, I never counted more than three at one time. Today I am publishing nine new photographs of these wild birds and a wallpaper for your PC. |
Nynke Laverman - 'De Maisfrou' open air concert Riis, 22 June 2007
About 500 guests visisted the 'garden theatre' in the Frisian village of Rijs (Netherlands), where Frisian singer Nynke Laverman played her last show of the Mexico-inspired 'Maisfrou' ('corn woman') series. The musical arrangement of the two concerts of tonight and tomorrow had been expanded with additional musicians. I am presenting 14 new photographs of the first concert. |

Wildlife on Helgoland
At the beginning of this month I spent a couple of days on the German island of Helgoland which is quite different from the Dutch Wadden Sea islands. Steep cliffs host breeding birds like the Northern Gannet, Northern Fulmars, species for which you would normally have to travel further up north to Norway or the UK. There is a fantastic Northsea aquarium too, and seals are hauling out on the island's sandy beaches. Today I am presenting a selection of 48 new photographs on five pages:

An Pierlé & White Velvet - live at Elastiek Festival
An Pierlé & White Velvet played a free concert in the centre of the small village of Hilvarenbeek (The Netherlands), where the annual Elastiek Festival took place. All inhabitants and many people from the area had decided to go and check out the music, resulting in a mixed audience of old and young people. An got in the mood in her very own style, by reminiscing about a silly children's song from Dutch eighties TV. It did not take long for the concert to turn into a big party like the band is used to play, enjoying a good sound and making everybody, including themselves, really enthousiastic. 16 new photographs of this concert. |

Last Saturday March 3rd, visitors of the Dutch Raptor Day donated generously to Birdlife's campagne Save The Albatross: at the end of the day no less than € 52,48 had been given by raptor enthousiasts. I want to thank everybody who donated a note or a few coins! Also, I want to thank the organisation of the Dutch Raptor Taskforce (especially mrs Hanneke Sevink) for their hospitality and for allowing me to have a stand. Read more about albatrosses, longline fishing and about the initiatives that BirdLife International is taking to avoid more casualties. |

Dina Emed - Piel de Tango
It was more or less by accident that I walked into Confitería La Ideal, Buenos Aires. La Ideal is a bakery during the daytime, and a tango hall in the evening, where both performances and lessons are being held. On the evening on the 4th of February there was a performance of Dina Emed with her dansers and musicians. Donation to Save The Albatross campaign
